Update Ver 5.0 : Enhancing Fun

And here it is — version 5.0 is finally out!

The biggest improvement is the level design. Up until now, I was designing levels straight from my head.
To improve the difficulty curve and make the game more fun, I’ve started designing and sketching enemy and obstacle sequences before coding them.
Total game changer!

I also extended the level length. In previous versions, levels never lasted more than 1 minute and 30 seconds. Now, each level runs around 2 to 3 minutes.

Next, the entire game now runs at 640x480 resolution. Some levels were still using 640x400 — and even 300x200 in some cases!
This upgrade gives the game a much cleaner and more appealing retro look, reminiscent of the Sega Genesis era.

I’ve also reworked the controls.
I realized how convenient it is to use the W, X, and C keys to switch speed, shoot, and change weapons. Of course, gamepad support is still there.

Last but not least, I adjusted the collision system. It used to be ruthless with the player — not anymore.

For those following the project, you’ll notice that the multi-directional scrolling level is still missing. That’s intentional.
I didn’t expect the work for version 5.0 to take so much time. I’ll definitely build that level one day — but not just yet.

Looking ahead to version 5.5, I plan to bring back two revamped levels from version 4 — but much better this time.
